Such a gut feeling!

Hey! I'm Jon, and this is my booch. It's a bubbling brew of goodness, handmade in my kitchen with a whole lotta love and a happy SCOBY.

Meet the brew
Jon brewing kombucha in his kitchen

It all started with a fizz...

I wasn't always a fermentation fanatic. My journey started with a simple goal: make a drink that was both ridiculously tasty and genuinely good for you. I got my hands on a SCOBY (a weird, wonderful, jelly-pancake thing), and the rest is history.

Jonbucha is the result of that playful obsession. It's brewed the old-fashioned way, in teeny-tiny batches, so every bottle is packed with personality and probiotics. It's my gut feeling, bottled.

The one and only

(For now, anyway!)

The Original Zinger Kombucha Bottle

The Original Zinger

Ginger, Turmeric & Lemon

Your taste buds are in for a treat! This is the brew that started it all. A zesty, warming kick of organic ginger and turmeric, rounded out with a bright splash of lemon. It's sunshine in a bottle, guaranteed to put a smile on your face and a spring in your step.

Spicy Warming Refreshing

Seasonal flavours dropping soon!

I'm always experimenting in the kitchen. Keep your eyes peeled for limited-edition brews inspired by the seasons.

Come say hi!

This Website is AI-Brewed.

Just like how Kombucha gets its fizz from a collaboration with a SCOBY, this website was born in a similar way – a creative partnership between me and AI.

It all started as a laugh. I'm the creative lead at Google DeepMind, and I was kicking around ideas for a side project, something where I could make something. As we chatted, the name "Jonbucha" popped into my head. It was just a joke, a silly pun.

But then, I got curious. I checked, and jonbucha.com was available for just £1 a month. That got me thinking. I talk to people all the time who are curious about AI but don't know where to start. "Jonbucha" could be a fun way to show what Google's AI tools can do.

And so, the experiment began.

To be clear: I don't sell Kombucha. Or Jonbucha. I'd hope, if I did, I'd come up with a better name!

Everything you see on this site was vibe coded. It's a quick, hopefully fun, hopefully informative demo of what's possible. Here's my recipe:

The Website Code:

I kicked things off by asking the Gemini App, "Can you write me the code for a simple website for jonbucha.com?" Just like that, I had the code for a website (the index.html file) which I could preview in Canvas mode. From there, I tweaked and tinkered using plain English. "Can you add a liquid animation at the top?" "How about a section for a video?" "Can you explain what a Scoby is?" It was a back-and-forth conversation. I even used it to polish the copy. The original tagline was "A hug for your gut" but - inspired by uplifting 90s dance music - I changed to "Such a gut feeling"

Quick tip: if you have an existing website you want to tweak, just uplaod it's index.html file to Gemini and ask it to tweak the code/copy for you. You can then just reupload the new file to your hosting service and voila.

Hosting and Security:

Once I was happy with the site, I uploaded it to my hosting service (GoDaddy - nothing fancy!). This is where things got a little more complicated. I needed a security certificate but I didn't want to pay for one (this was just meant to be a bit of fun, remember?). So I asked Gemini for help. It walked me through setting up a free Cloudflare account and how to change the DNS settings on my hosting service. Easy.

Fixing the Bugs:

Of course, not everything worked at first. You can quickly debug code by uplaoding a screenshot of the problem or describing it to Gemini. For example, the contact form didn't work at first - it wasn';t connected to an email address. Again, I turned to Gemini. It helped me set up a Formspree account and showed me exactly how to edit the code to get it working. That said, there are still a few issues. I'm still trying to debug the video container so it plays on iOS. Gemini suggested i upload to YouTube, which works, but I want to try to make the custom player work on the site.

The "Product" Shots:

At a minimum, I needed product shots, testimonials, and a photo of yours truly.

For the "Jonbucha" bottle, I generated an image in the Gemini App and then combined it in Whisk with a screenshot of the website. That quickly generated an acceptable branded product shot.

For my "wellness expert" photo, I took my LinkedIn Profile picture and asked Gemini to give me a beard. It’s made me consider growing one!

And for the testimonial, I used a combination of Flow and Veo 3 in the Gemini App to generate the street interview. This took a few attempts to get things right - I had to spell Jonbucha phonetically (Jon-Boo-Cha) to get the pronunication on the audio vaguely correct. If I'd had more time, I might have strung together multiple interviews in Flow. Or added a product demo.

This whole thing took around two hours (most of which was on a train with dodgy wi-fi) and was a true collaboration between human creativity and artificial intelligence. I could have gone way further with these tools, but this was just a quick demo to show you what's possible.

It's honestly mind-blowing how quick and easy it is to create and launch a website and some simple marketing with AI these days. And, as everyone in the tech world keeps saying, "this is the worst these tools will ever be."

So, if you're feeling a little AI-curious, I hope this inspires you to just dive in. Just describe what you want and see where it takes you. It's that simple. Good luck!
